San Miguel Beermen are determined to bounce back after a disappointing PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup.
To strengthen their roster for the Philippine Cup, the team acquired big man JM Calma from NorthPort Batang Pier in a trade approved on April 2.
The Beermen, who failed to make the playoffs for the first time in a decade, traded rookie Avan Nava and a 2025 second-round pick to NorthPort in exchange for Calma. However, Calma is still recovering from an ACL injury sustained during a game against Ginebra in the previous Philippine Cup. Before his injury in April 2024, the 6-foot-6 forward averaged 7.9 points and five rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, NorthPort aims to build on its strong showing in the Commissioner’s Cup, where it reached the semifinals.
