Major- Breaking: Reds sends 4-word message After Max Meyer Historic feat v Miami Marlins

Max Meyer delivered a dominant performance Monday night, striking out a career-best 14 batters over six shutout innings as the Miami Marlins defeated the Cincinnati Reds 6-3.

Meyer, who finished the sixth by striking out the side, left the field to a standing ovation. His outing marked Miami’s first game with double-digit strikeouts since June 1 of last year.

The right-hander (2-2) gave up five hits, issued no walks, and dropped his ERA to 2.10. His previous high for strikeouts in a game was eight.

Pinch-hitter Kyle Stowers added a key boost with a three-run homer in the seventh, and Jesús Tinoco closed it out with a 1-2-3 ninth for his second save. The win marked Miami’s second straight after enduring a five-game skid.

Reds starter Nick Lodolo (2-2) surrendered three runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings.

Jesús Sánchez and Ronny Simon each had RBI singles in the second, with Sánchez’s hit marking his first RBI of the season.

Eric Wagaman belted his third homer of the season in the fifth inning—a 407-foot blast that just cleared the glove of center fielder TJ Friedl.

Gavin Lux recorded his first home run of the year with a two-run shot off Tyler Phillips in the eighth.

Agustín Ramírez and Simo each notched their first major league hits in the second inning. Ramírez reached with an infield single and later scored on Simo’s base hit to center. After Stowers homered, Ramírez added a double and then swiped third for his first big league stolen base.

Meyer matched the third-highest single-game strikeout total in Marlins history, trailing only Ricky Nolasco’s 16 against the Braves in 2009 and Liván Hernández’s 15 in the 1997 NLCS Game 5.

Miami right-hander Edward Cabrera (0-1, 6.52 ERA), who started the season on the injured list due to a blister on his right middle finger, is scheduled to make his third start Tuesday against Cincinnati righty Nick Martinez (0-3, 6.00 ERA).
