St. Louis Blues general manager Doug Armstrong said Wednesday that defenseman Torey Krug is unlikely to return to the NHL due to a serious ankle injury.
Krug, who last appeared in an NHL game in 2024, has missed the entire current season because of the injury.
Krug is recognized for his lengthy stints with both the Blues and the Boston Bruins over his professional career, which spans more than a decade.
“I don’t expect him to play again,” Armstrong told reporters. “He’s hoping I’m wrong, and so am I. He’s doing everything he can, but the surgery he had was extremely invasive.”
One of the highlights of Krug’s career was helping the Bruins reach the Stanley Cup Final in 2019, where they were defeated in seven games by the Blues — the team he would later join.
Krug began his NHL career with the Bruins in 2012 and remained with the team until 2020, when he signed a seven-year contract with St. Louis.
