Seattle Seahawks Pull’s Off Shocking Trade with Minnesota Vikings In 2025 NFL Draft

The Minnesota Vikings’ decision to trade for Seahawks quarterback Sam Howell—swapping fifth-round picks—might not be as straightforward as it appears.

Originally a 2022 fifth-rounder for Washington, Howell became the Commanders’ starter in 2023 but struggled, leading the NFL in both sacks taken (65) and interceptions thrown (21).

With rookie J.J. McCarthy set to lead a team coming off a 14-win season, there’s mounting pressure for stability—prompting speculation the Vikings may still pursue a seasoned backup like Joe Flacco or Ryan Tannehill.

Howell, however, doesn’t fit that mold.

Minnesota merely moved down 30 picks in the draft to acquire Howell, who’s more likely replacing Nick Mullens than challenging for a significant role. He could step in briefly if needed, but counting on him for long-term success would be risky.

So, while the Vikings appear set at quarterback for now, this move doesn’t rule out a major QB acquisition that’s been rumored throughout the offseason.
