The Dallas Wings reshaped their franchise’s future when they selected former UConn standout Paige Bueckers with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft.
Much like Caitlin Clark’s highly anticipated arrival in Indiana the year prior, Bueckers entered the league with star status—and she hasn’t disappointed. Despite the Wings struggling in the standings, Bueckers has delivered a stellar rookie campaign, quickly establishing herself as the team’s foundational star. She’s expected to be a key figure in Dallas’ turnaround moving forward. Thanks to their continued struggles, the Wings are also in position to secure another high draft pick in 2026—potentially giving them a dynamic young duo to build around next season.
On Monday, the WNBA spotlighted Bueckers once again by naming her the Rookie of the Month for July. The league shared the announcement on social media, highlighting her averages of 18.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 5.2 assists during the month—marking her second straight win of the honor.
Across her 23 games this season, Bueckers is averaging 18.5 points, 5.5 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game, while shooting 45.4% from the field and 34.1% from beyond the arc.
For comparison, Caitlin Clark posted 19.2 points, 8.4 assists, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game in 40 games during her rookie season, shooting 41.7% overall and 34.4% from three-point range.
There’s no doubt Dallas has found its next star in Bueckers—and with her still developing, the rest of the league should take notice. Her July award felt inevitable, and unless something unexpected happens, she appears well on her way to capturing WNBA Rookie of the Year honors as well.
