The Denver Nuggets have dismissed Michael Malone from his role as head coach, a decision announced on Tuesday.
Malone, who guided the team to the 2023 NBA Championship and oversaw eight straight winning seasons, was let go less than a week into the current regular season.
In addition, General Manager Calvin Booth will not return, as the team has chosen not to renew his contract.
David Adelman has been named interim head coach for the remainder of the season.Josh Kroenke, Vice Chairman of Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, acknowledged the difficulty of the move, saying it was “not made with pleasure.”
“This was a carefully considered decision,” Kroenke said. “Our goal is to put the team in the best position to compete for the 2025 NBA Championship and bring another title home to Denver and our fans.”
Despite a solid 47–32 record with three games remaining, the Nuggets have lost four in a row and are caught in a tight race for first-round home-court advantage in the playoffs
