St. Louis Stunned as 2-Time All-Star Trade Shakes Core of Team.

The St. Louis Cardinals appear to be facing some disappointing developments. According to Bob Nightengale of *USA Today*, the team is reportedly looking to trade closer Ryan Helsley, but his recent struggles could be diminishing his market value.

“The Cardinals had hoped that keeping Helsley for the first half of the season would increase his trade value. However, despite leading the league with 49 saves last year, he has only converted four of six save chances this season, with a 3.60 ERA and 1.60 WHIP,” Nightengale reported.

After giving up an earned run to the New York Mets on May 2, Helsley’s ERA has climbed to 4.09, and his WHIP sits at 1.55.

The Cardinals, sitting at 14-19 before Sunday’s game and having gone 5-5 in their last 10, are searching for solutions on the mound. Helsley’s inconsistency is part of the problem—he’s given up five earned runs in just 11 outings this year, compared to 15 in 65 games last season.
