Corey Adams, a freshman defensive lineman at Ole Miss, was tragically killed in a shooting Saturday night in Cordova, Tennessee, according to ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg. Adams, who had joined the Rebels early in the year and was preparing for his first season, was one of five individuals shot during the incident. The other victims sustained non-critical injuries, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
Adams was a standout athlete in Louisiana, earning all-state honors twice before enrolling at Ole Miss in the winter.
In a statement, Ole Miss football expressed deep sorrow over his death:
“We are heartbroken to share that Corey Adams, a freshman on our team, passed away last night in Cordova, Tennessee. As we grieve this terrible loss, our thoughts are with Corey’s family and loved ones. To honor their privacy during this time, we will not be providing further comment. We ask the Ole Miss community to keep Corey in their hearts.”
The program also posted a tribute on social media expressing condolences to all who knew and loved Adams. Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
