The Angels have struggled to gain momentum in July, going just 3-5 so far and gradually slipping out of the American League wild card race, especially as teams like the Twins, Royals, and surging Red Sox close the gap. Still, there are encouraging signs of life. Most notably, the lineup is nearly back to full strength with Yoán Moncada returning from the injured list. While Christian Moore’s injury will keep him out until August, Luis Rengifo appears to be finding his rhythm again. But no one in the lineup is hotter right now than the player who dominated for them in June.Jo Adell continues to be the Angels’ standout offensive force
After a phenomenal June in which he hit .293/.375/.663 with 11 home runs and 19 RBIs — earning him votes for AL Player of the Month — Jo Adell has kept his momentum going into July. He hasn’t cracked the All-Star roster, but his performance so far this month shows he’s more than worthy of that stage.
Since July 1, Adell leads the Angels in total bases with 13, coming from a home run, two doubles (matching his June total), and five singles. Those three extra-base hits put him in a tie for the team lead this month alongside Jorge Soler and Zach Neto. His nine RBIs also top the team by a wide margin, with Nolan Schanuel trailing at five.
Much has been discussed about Adell’s revamped swing and approach at the plate. Unlike most players, his changes — like an adjusted leg kick and more aggressive early-count swings — have drawn significant media attention. That spotlight has helped underscore just how effective those adjustments have been.
The bottom line: Adell’s breakout wasn’t a flash in the pan. While rough patches will inevitably come, he’s proven his commitment to improving and becoming a more reliable hitter. If he can sustain this level of play into 2025 — and stars like Mike Trout and Taylor Ward also produce at a high level — the Angels may very well power their way back into the playoff conversation.
