The Las Vegas Raiders are unlikely to draft a franchise quarterback this April unless they make a bold move to secure one. Holding the 6th overall pick, the team would likely need to trade that selection along with a future first-rounder to move up for their preferred quarterback. The New York Giants are expected to take a quarterback at No. 3, while ESPN’s Mina Kimes recently stated on her podcast that she is confident the Cleveland Browns will do the same with the second pick. This leaves the Tennessee Titans at No. 1 as the only viable trade partner for the Raiders, a scenario that Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport suggested as a way for Las Vegas to land Colorado quarterback.
“Playing in a division where three teams made the postseason last year, the Raiders aren’t going anywhere until they secure some stability at football’s most important position,” Davenport wrote on Feb. 23. “It’s a risky play. But if the Raiders believe in Sanders, it’s one worth taking.”
While some NFL teams reportedly prefer Miami’s Cam Ward over Sanders, the Colorado quarterback has a notable connection to Tom Brady, Las Vegas’ newest minority owner. Additionally, Sanders’ father and Colorado head coach, Deion Sanders, has expressed hope that the Raiders will draft his son.
